In this example I added colour to an old black and white photograph.
The first think that I did was to crop the scanned image to a standard picture size before I carried out any work on it.
Then I went over the whole image and removed all of the dust specs and other marks on the picture.
I then added colour to the image bit by bit building it up in layers until I got the desired effect and was happy with the colour.
I re-added the background from another photo taken on the same day as the old background was not that clear. Then I darkened and added some contrast to the umbrella and jacket as they looked a bit faded. I also brightened up the wedding gown as the colouring process had given it a slight colour cast.
Finally I sharpened the image up a little and adjusted the overall brightness, contrast and colour to add the finishing touch.
For black and white to colour conversions the higher quality the original the better as it allows you to define clear borders between different parts of the image and colourise it more easily.
